Playa Vista residents and members from surrounding communities will soon be able to shop for fresh produce in an outdoor market on Saturdays as well as on one week day.
A second farmers market is slated to be open beginning Wednesday, June 5 at a parking lot off of Bluff Creek Drive, the same location of the Saturday farmers market.
“We’re looking at the (weekday market) to supplement the weekend farmers market,” said Mark Anderson, who runs the nonprofit organization in charge of the Playa Vista outdoor market, Sprouts of Promises Foundation.
“We wanted to give time to those who attend the Saturday farmers market to visit us during the week as well as give the people who don’t have a chance to come on the weekend a chance to get their fresh fruits and vegetables on a weekday evening,” he said.
The weekday market will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
“I’ve seen this market grow from where it was only Playa Vista residents to a place where people from the surrounding communities want to come,” said Anderson.
The announcement comes four years after the first market opened June 8, 2009. On Saturday, June 8, representatives of the open air market are planning special activities to commemorate its four-year anniversary.
The Wednesday market will be open on a seasonal basis, from June until October.
