A program called “Seniors Against Investment Fraud” is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 25th, in the Santa Monica Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica. This is a presentation by Wise Senior Services.
Admission is free. Seating is limited and on a first-arrival basis. A reception will follow the program.
The presentation will include a video made in conjunction with California state agencies and AARP.
Nationwide, statistics show more than 24 million people each year become victims of fraud crimes and most are over the age of 50, according to the library. Investment fraud costs billions of dollars each year, harms the economy and financial security of the seniors who are impacted.
Many elderly victims lose their liFe savings through high-interest loans, phony high-risk “investments” and other schemes primarily originating from telemarketing solicitations, according to the library.
