A female associate of a Los Angeles gang pleaded no contest July 15 in the 2008 fatal shooting of a Los Angeles International Airport employee, the county District Attorney’s Office announced.
Deputy District Attorney Mark Inaba of the Hardcore Gang Division said Jessica Ortega, 32, pleaded no contest to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted gang and gun allegations in connection with the killing of Samantha Padilla.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers ordered Ortega to return for sentencing on Aug. 4. She faces a 25-year state prison term, district attorney spokeswoman Shiara Davila said.
Padilla, who worked at LAX, was fatally shot just after midnight on April 10, 2008, when she exited the northbound 110 freeway at Slauson Avenue, Davila said. Padilla, who was on her way home from work, was stopped at a traffic signal when she was killed.
