The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors is offering introduction to shore fishing classes this summer at the new Dockweiler Youth Center in Playa del Rey.
The classes began June 5th and will continue through Saturday, July 17th.
Fishing poles and bait are provided at no cost. Youth under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Anglers typically catch surfperch, croaker, corbina, halibut and leopard shark at Dockweiler State Beach.
Participants over 16 years of age must present a valid California fishing license to participate and can find fishing license information, including a listing of local retailers selling fishing licenses at the Web site,
The following are fishing dates for 2010: June 19th, June 26th, July 10th and July 17th. All sessions are from 8 to 10 a.m. and are limited to ten participants per session.
