Sixteen Santa Monica College (SMC) students — one student from each of the college’s 16 intercollegiate teams — have been named 2004-05 Student Athletes of the Year.
The athlete of the year awards will be presented at the annual awards breakfast, which is sponsored by the SMC General Advisory Board, at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19th, in the SMC Pavilion, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
The 16 students, selected by coaches, are honored for their academic and athletic achievements.
The student athletes of the year in each sport and their coaches are:
Women’s basketball: Kristine Jensen (coach Lydia Strong)
Men’s basketball: Efrem Lawrence (coach Trevor Shickman)
Women’s swimming: Denise Tran (coach Steve Contarsy)
Men’s swimming: James Parrish (coach Steve Contarsy)
Women’s track and field: Lisha Burch (coach Eric Barron)
Men’s track and field: Chinedozi Foster (coach Tommie Smith)
Women’s volleyball: Claudia Jacobs (coach Wendy Dreher)
Men’s volleyball: Brian Schirripa (coach Mark Lee)
Football: Charles Searcy (coach Robert Taylor)
Women’s cross-country: Maria Bautista (coach Eric Barron)
Men’s cross-country: Mo Elmi (coach Eric Barron)
Women’s soccer: Liz Angermeier (coach Aaron Benditson)
Women’s softball: Amanda Salvestrini (coach Tamara Ivie)
Women’s water polo: Sally Sachs (coach Mike Santo)

In addition, SMC will honor Alexis Lanman, a member of the SMC cheer squad, whose coach is Susan Corpus.
