SANTA MONICA COLLEGE film students celebrate their award in a live pitch session. Holding the check are SMC film professor Salvador Carrasco (left) and Edmundo Macias, new products development manager at Sidral Mundet.

Santa Monica College’s Society of 6, a team of students from professor Salvador Carrasco’s film production class, won first place at a “live pitch session” last month at the Santa Monica Playhouse in front of a jury of industry executives.
As a result, the team won $5,000 for SMC’s film program and $2,500 for the students themselves.
Carrasco noted that the student filmmakers also had “the incredible opportunity” of collaborating with a professional film company, IndieEye Productions, in the filming of Society of 6’s original winning pitch for the new marketing campaign of the soft drink, Sidral Mundet Manzana Verde.
The competition was sponsored by My Production Workshop, Sidral Mundet, Final Draft, EP Software, American Cinematographer, and other film industry sponsors.
