Twenty-two boats registered and sailed the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club (SMWYC) Inverted Start course, which took them on a ten-nautical-mile journey Sunday, August 1st.
The race began with a downwind start from “S” mark to”SS” mark, north to the Santa Monica Bell buoy and out to “T” mark, with the finish at “S” mark.
Everyone enjoyed the sail under a great breeze with just the right amount of sun.
And, according to race chairman Dave Osborn,” the finish was really a kick, with many cases of several boats finishing within inches of each other.”
The Inverted Start is based on a reversed sequence, allowing the slower boats to begin first, the faster boats last, with the goal that all boats will finish closely.
And they did.
The next Cruisers Race will be held Sunday, August 29th, with the “Marks-A-Lot” course being sailed.
Registration will take place at SMWYC and must be completed by 6 p.m. Saturday, August 28th, for the $10 race fee.
Later entrys will pay an increased fee. Late entrys are discouraged.
