The Sherry Frumkin Gallery in Santa Monica will host a solo exhibition of works by photographer Jack Butler beginning Saturday, May 15th through June 19th.
Looking Back at the Future will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. May 15th at the gallery, 3026 Airport Ave. Studio 21, Santa Monica. Gallery hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Butler, a Los Angeles artist, documents his move away from Southern California, his artistic home for 40 years, with his photographs.
One photo, which shows a landscape view from the leather back seat of a car, can be perceived as a “barren road stretching back into the distance symbolizing both where one has come and where one is going,” a gallery spokesperson says.
Butler’s fourth solo exhibition at Sherry Frumkin showcases varied work from 2003 to the present, including car culture imagery.
“These works are the seeds of what’s to come,” says Butler. “I’m rolling north, looking backwards but into the future.”
