Playa Vista will hold a grand opening for its seven-acre “Sports Park at Playa Vista” beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 1st, with several festivities planned throughout the day.
The sports park, on Bluff Creek Drive, features state-of-the-art soccer and Little League baseball fields, as well as basketball and tennis courts.
The park also features a universally accessible playground designed by the nonprofit group Shane’s Inspiration, to allow children with disabilities to play side-by-side with their more able-bodied peers.
Other features of the park are picnic areas, the first segment of a two-mile trail that parallels the Riparian Corridor, exercise stations and a variety of view points.
The grand opening of the Sports Park at Playa Vista is free and open to the public.
The event will showcase a basketball clinic and autographs by Los Angeles Clippers star Corey Maggette, baseball clinics sponsored by the Los Angeles Dodgers, autograph signing by Dodger great Steve Garvey and tennis with pro Mike Anderson.
The grand opening will also include a special ceremony to dedicate the Shane’s Inspiration playground and children’s soccer clinics by Coast Sports.
Los Angeles Unified School District board of education president Marlene Canter is scheduled to dedicate the Shane’s Inspiration playground at 11 a.m.
Playa Vista president Steve Soboroff and more than 1,000 residents are expected to attend the event.
