St. Jerome School in Westchester capped off the sports season for the 2006-07 school year with both its boys and girls soccer teams winning a championship at the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Soccer Tourna- ment Wednesday, May 16th.
The St. Jerome boys and girls soccer CYO championships add to a number of other athletic achievements for the school this year, school officials said.
The other top sports accomplishments by St. Jerome School include Sweet 16 appearances by the boys football and volleyball teams and girls volleyball teams, an Elite Eight finish by the boys basketball team, a CYO championship by the girls basketball team and a second-place finish by the girls track team.
The Lady Spartans soccer team, coached by Mike Cunningham, played through the CYO tournament, allowing just four goals in five games while scoring 28 goals.
The boys soccer team, coached by Paul Callinan, finished with a tournament record of 5-0-1, allowing just four goals while earning its third consecutive CYO Championship.
The success of the entire sports program earned St. Jerome School the CYO Director’s Cup, which is awarded to the CYO member school with the most successful sports program in the City of Los Angeles, school officials said.
