Seven five-year-old children received diplomas Friday, August 27th, in a graduation ceremony of the full-day childcare Early Learning Center (ELC) at the St. Joseph Center in Santa Monica.

Twenty preschoolers and their parents are part of the centerís ongoing childcare, development, and case management services, which encourage self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income families.

“This ceremony is very special to me,” said April Wright, Early Learning Center coordinator.

“It marks the first graduation in our Expanded Early Learning Center program that moved to Fourth [Street] and Ashland [Avenue] last year,” she said.

“Here we are preparing children for the future,” said Wright.

Some of the five-year-old graduates have already determined what they want to do in the future.

One wishes to be a pilot, one a nurse and another a teacher.
