State Senator Jenny Oropeza of Long Beach was appointed to the five-member Senate Rules Committee on December 1st. Oropeza represents some of the Argonaut coverage area south of Santa Monica
The committee is responsible for the daily operations of California’s upper legislative house. The committee is also responsible for reviewing and recommending key gubernatorial appointments before the full Senate votes on them.
“I’m honored Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg has selected me to help him lead California as we face many difficult challenges facing the state’s economy, environment, health and transportation issues,” Oropeza said afterward.
After naming his leadership team, Steinberg said, “These difficult economic times call for a Legislature that focuses on production and work on behalf of the people.
“I am honored to have these dedicated public servants as partners in solving California’s greatest challenges.”
Steinberg also elevated Oropeza to chair of the Democratic Caucus, which develops policy recommendations for the 25 Senate Democrats.
As chair of the caucus, Oropeza will be part of Steinberg’s inner circle and will help define state policy.
