Venice Arts will celebrate its 17th anniversary with a fundraising gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Bigfoot Entertainment, 1611 Electric Ave., Venice.
The event will include both silent and live auctions featuring over 60 photographs by world-renowned photographers and Venice Arts students, a weeklong trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and a session with celebrity photographer Russell Baer.
At this year’s gala, Venice Arts will honor some of those who have shown continuous support for the organization, including Baer of Russell Baer Photography; Robert Feist, owner of the media company Ravenswork and co-founder of the Venice Media District; and photographers Jasmine and Mark Swope.
Baer, whose images have captured famous faces from Hollywood celebrities to government officials and sports heroes, will be recognized not only for his images but his mentorship of dozens of inner-city, low-income youths through Venice Arts, according to the nonprofit organization.
“This work with the students has shown me so much about myself as well as the knowledge and abilities these kids have. I see gratification on their faces and it always brings a sense of accomplishment to me,” said Baer.
Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments from local Venice restaurants and businesses will be served and music by Jenny Grozdich and Birdie Mendoza will provide entertainment.
Tickets may be purchased for $150 and raffle tickets for $10 each at www.venice-arts.org.
The winning ticket of Venice Arts’ raffle will be drawn, and the lucky winners will receive an iPod Touch or two round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines.
