Mother’s Beach and the Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina del Rey were evacuated Tuesday during a suspicious package scare that authorities said turned out to be a hoax.

“Our arson and explosives detail was called out to the pool area of the Jamaica Bay Inn at about 9:50 a.m. to investigate a suspicious device,” said Sgt. Michael Carrilles of the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station. “The device was deemed to be a hoax.”

The investigation concluded at around 12:20 p.m. and evacuation orders were lifted, he said. Further details about the device were not immediately available.
