Santa Monica Repertory Theater is presenting The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) through June 30 at the Promenade Playhouse.
Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the playhouse, 1404 Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) condenses all 37 of the Bard of Avon’s comedies, tragedies, histories and even a nod to the sonnets in one 97-minute package, performed by three actors.
Given the breadth and depth of Shakespeare’s complete works, not all of the Bard’s plays are considered equal, but “loving attention” is given to Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, according to Santa Monica Repertory.
Produced by Bart Petty for the Santa Monica Repertory Theater, the show was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, and is directed by Sarah Gurfield.
The production stars Eric Bloom, (who is also the company’s artistic director), Mike Niedzwicki and Lucas Kwan Peterson.
Written in 1987, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) was first performed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to play on London’s West End for 10 years.
General admission is $25 and tickets for students and seniors are $15. Tickets, www.santamonicarep.org or (213) 268 – 1454.
