BOOKED FOR CAMPING IN PUBLIC, HAVING CARTS

Officers were conducting a periodic check of a homeless encampment in an alley of the 1300 block of Ozone Street at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19th, when they saw a man sleeping with two shopping carts in his possession.

Police determined that the shopping carts were from two local stores and that the man had an outstanding warrant for camping in public.

The suspect was arrested and booked for camping in public, misappropriation of lost property and having an outstanding warrant.

TENANT ARRESTED FOR

DRIVING STOLEN VEHICLE

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of 17th Street at 11:42 p.m. Thursday, June 19th, regarding a report of a stolen vehicle parked in an alley behind the complex.

Officers entered the complex and located the driver of the vehicle, who was detained. The owner of the vehicle was contacted to recover the vehicle.

Police arrested the suspect and booked him for grand theft auto and parole violation.

ALLEGEDLY HAD JOYRIDE BUT DID NOT PAY FARE

A taxi driver in the 800 block of Ocean Avenue alleged to police at 5:13 a.m. Friday, June 20th, that a woman requested to be driven to locations in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and the South Bay but she did not pay the $180 fare.

Officers located the woman in the area, and she said she did not have enough money to pay the fare. She was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested and booked for defrauding an innkeeper and public intoxication.

2 ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER

A police officer was called to an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Kansas Avenue at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, June 21st, where a disturbance had been reported.

When the officer arrived, he saw a man standing outside the complex who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. After the officer asked for the man’s identification, the man allegedly began to argue and fight with the officer.

The man then reached under his shirt, at which point the officer grabbed and detained the suspect. At the same time, the man’s girlfriend left their apartment, approached the officer and allegedly attempted to strike him.

The officer struggled with the woman until additional officers arrived and detained both suspects.

The two suspects were arrested and booked for assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

MAN ALLEGEDLY CHASED STAFF WITH HAMMER

Police were called to a social service facility in the 1300 block of Second Street at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 25th, where staff members alleged that a patron had chased staff counselors with a hammer. After the counselors were able to take the hammer from the suspect, he fled.

The counselors chased after the suspect until the arrival of police, who arrested and booked the suspect for assault with a deadly weapon, probation violation and having an outstanding warrant.
