In 2003, I entered the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade for the first time. My charter boat is a 65-foot Stevens named Heather, named after the original owner’s granddaughter.
My girlfriend suggested that we include 18,000 lights in decorating the boat and have a friend perform live songs on deck for the parade. The singer was a former Broadway show star and he’s now a psychiatrist in Malibu.
Everyone was having a great time, and one of the guests, a young woman with a great voice, started singing duets with our singer halfway through the parade.
Not only were they a great singing team, they hit it off so well that they later went to Vail, Colorado together and fell in love.
I’m again entering the boat parade this year and who knows what might happen!
