Three men from Colorado were arrested and booked for assault with a deadly weapon after a fight and attempted stabbing near the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica early Saturday, September 30th, police said.
Santa Monica police were called to the rear of the 300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard at 12:25 a.m., where a fight in progress or possible stabbing had been reported.
When officers arrived, they saw a fight in progress on the sidewalk near the Third Street Promenade, where three men were allegedly assaulting another man, Santa Monica police Captain Alex Padilla said.
At least one of the suspects was allegedly kicking the victim in the head, police said. One of the suspects also allegedly attempted to stab a second male victim with a knife.
As officers approached the fight, all three suspects fled on foot in different directions, Padilla said. One suspect was arrested after a brief foot chase. The second suspect ran to a vehicle parked nearby and an officer attempted to arrest him by ordering him to surrender, police said.
During the pursuit the officer fired two shots at the suspect in an attempt to apprehend him, police said.
The suspect, who was not injured, drove away from the scene but was arrested a couple of blocks away by officers, Padilla said.
The third suspect was located on foot in the area of the fight and police arrested him without incident, Padilla said.
The first victim was taken to a local hospital and was listed in serious condition with head trauma and abrasions, police said. The second victim was not injured.
The three suspects, who are all from Denver, were identified as Steven Casados, 26, Louis Casados, 37, and Anthony Vasquez, 18, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Santa Monica Police Department Robbery-Homicide Unit.
