Santa Monica College students won three awards in the 13th Annual Chinese Poetry Recitation Contest, held recently at California State University (CSU) Los Angeles.
Sarah Jacobus won first place and Shunsuke Ito won second place in the “Participants With No Chinese Background” category.
Ran Nakayama won third place in the “Intermediate Level of Mandarin” category.
The three students are in professor Xiaozhou Wu’s Chinese II class.
Approximately 40 students from two-year and four-year colleges and universities competed in the contest.
The contest was sponsored by the CSU Los Angeles Chinese Studies Center and the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
