Two Mar Vista residents who are softball players at Marymount High School earned all-CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) recognition this season.

Pitcher Andrea Lyons, the team’s only senior, was selected to the all-CIF first team. Freshman Megan Blank earned all-CIF second team honors this season.

Lyons, who is headed to the University of Arizona in the fall, finished with an earned run average of 1.13 and led the Sunshine League with 163 strikeouts while starting 18 of the team’s 29 games.

She was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) pitcher of the Sunshine League and was also chosen as MVP of the Marymount High Sailors team, as she helped lead the team to consecutive league titles during her junior and senior years.

Blank was one of only three freshmen on the team and started at shortstop throughout the season. She led the league in home runs and steals and had the highest batting average on the team at .512.

The Sailors finished the season with an overall record of 22-7 and won the league championship with a 7-1 record.
