The Santa Monica Playhouse will kick off Part II of its 24-month 50th anniversary celebration with a 14-day free Festival of Theatre centered around the original musical All Join In, from Monday, July 4 through Sunday, July 17.
Performances of All Join In, a fairytale sing-a-long show, are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. July 8 and 9; and 12:30 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, July 9 and 10 and July 16 and 17, at the playhouse, 1211 Fourth St., Santa Monica. All performances are free to the public.
Other special free events during the 14 days of the festival include an Enchanted Fairytale Interactive Theatre Adventure for children aged 4 to 10 and adults from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, July 4; and four free public workshops where participants work together to create their own mini-play, scheduled Wednesday, July 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for ages 6 to adult; Thursday, July 7 and Monday, July 11, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., both for ages 6 to 15; and Tuesday, July 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., for ages 18 and up.
For All Join In, audience members can sing along with their favorite fairytale characters to projected lyrics or follow along in activity-song books which they get to keep. There will be prizes to win, plus the chance to actively participate on stage.
All Join In features Celeste Akiki, Serena Dolinsky, Melissa Gentry, Nima Ghassemian and Graham Silbert, joined by a host of playhouse alumni from around the world who will make cameo appearances as they reprise their favorite character roles.
