The Santa Monica Place open-air shopping center will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, Aug. 6, with events planned for every Friday through Sunday, through the last weekend in August, culminating with a live ice carving on the dining deck from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29.
At 10 a.m. on opening day, Aug. 6, KCRW DJ/music director Jason Bentley will host the musical, beach-inspired celebration with a live performance by The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers-LXD on the main level plaza.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6, Bentley will host SunSets, a two-hour live set. On subsequent Fridays other KCRW DJs will host Sunsets.
The Mannequin Collective, an original art exhibit showcasing 100-plus mannequins throughout Santa Monica Place that have been made into works of art to benefit Otis College of Art and Design in Westchester, will be on display until Thursday, Aug. 22.
Special retailer-hosted events throughout the opening day and the weekend will feature celebrities among the many attractions at special in-store events.
Various activities will take place on opening weekend, Friday through Sunday, such as art activities, live music and dance performances and more.
