More than 1,000 low-income children were treated to a private screening of the Sony Pictures movie “Arthur Christmas” during the Venice Family Clinic’s 24th annual Children’s Holiday Movie event Dec. 10.

The free screening was at the United Artists Marina Del Rey 6 Theater, where the children also enjoyed carols sung by a local school choir and received gift bags from Santa Claus.

As part of the holiday event, Venice Family Clinic’s volunteer “elves” handed out bags full of toys, books and healthy treats to the youths.

Hundreds of individuals and organizations collectively donated nearly $75,000 to “sponsor” children to attend the event, a Venice Family Clinic spokesperson said.

All the products and services associated with the event were donated so the funds, in turn, will benefit Venice Family Clinic’s pediatric programs in 2012, the spokesperson noted.
