The Venice High School Alumni Association honored community service volunteers Sharon Goodner, John Weldon and Vance Schafer at the association’s 43rd Annual Honoree Dinner at George Petrelli’s Steak House in Culver City Saturday November 12th.

Goodner, of Orange County, class of 1953, was honored for her years of finding classmates for numerous Venice class reunions. For one class reunion, she located more than 400 classmates. For her own class reunion, she located all but 15.

Weldon, a Del Rey certified public accountant, was honored for his 17 years on the Alumni Board and advising the board on financial matters.

He is currently responsible for the Alumni Association’s $1.3 million scholarship endowment fund.

He also established the association Web site and Life Membership program.

Schafer, from Mar Vista, was honored for his long history of volunteering for the Little League, Boy Scouts, and LA Junior Golf programs at Penmar Golf Course.

He is one of the primary organizers of the annual Venice High Gondo Golf Classic that has raised more than $100,000 for the high school since the golf tournament inception.

Each year the association honors alumni who have contributed in a special way to the community or brought honor to Venice High School. During the years, 113 alumni have been honored at the annual dinner.
