The Rotary Club of Venice-Marina installed its new board of directors at its 65th inauguration celebration Thursday, July 26th, at the club’s new meeting location, C&O Cucina, 3016 Washington Blvd. in Venice.

The club’s incoming 2007-2008 board members include president Gisele Rebeiro de Watson, treasurer Kent Truckenbrod, membership Joey Baker and sergeant at arms David Maxwell.

Among the club’s activities are its “Rotary Craft Awards” at Venice High School, an event which was started by one of the club’s original members, Dr. Earl Bubar, in 1947.

Counselor G. Womble, then president of the Rotary Club of Venice-Marina, Row Wise and Bubar learned that there were numerous awards and recommendations for academic students, but very few awards for the industrial arts and homemaking students in high school, club members said.

The men decided to help correct this issue by starting the Rotary Craft Awards and the plan has also been adopted by many other high schools and Rotary Clubs throughout the world, club members said.

At its 65th anniversary this year, the Rotary Club of Venice-Marina inaugurated a new special award named after local photographer Greg Wenger, titled “The Greg Wenger Photography Grant.”
