Two high school girls basketball players from Western League champion Venice High School were selected for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Los Angeles City Section first team this past season.
Senior Ivory Blockmon and junior Shannon Nakamine were selected by a panel of sportswriters for the all-city first team after they helped lead the Gondoliers (19-8) to the league champion-ship with an 8-2 record in league play.
After earning a 66-57 victory at home over Taft High School of Woodland Hills in the first round of the City Section Championship Division playoffs, Venice narrowly lost 54-53 to visiting Crenshaw High School in the playoff second round.
Blockmon finished second in the league in scoring this season with 357 points, including 50 three-pointers.
Nakamine, who finished third in the league in scoring, was right behind her teammate with 355 points, including a league-leading 66 three-pointers.
She also finished second in the league in total assists with 94.
