The Westchester Babe Ruth baseball 14 and under team has won two of its first three games in the league World Series after defeating the Twin Cities team of Washington 6-3 Aug. 20.

The victory came after Westchester lost to Jacksonville 10-2 in pool play Aug. 19. Westchester opened the World Series with a decisive 18-4 win over Northeast Regional champion, Connecticut, Aug. 18.

Twin Cities entered the game against Westchester undefeated in the series.

Westchester jumped to an early 3-0 lead after doubles by Anthony Chavez and starting pitcher Ethan Lazar.

Twin Cities cut the deficit to 3-2 after scoring a single run in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly and in the bottom of the fourth on a botched double play attempt.

But Westchester maintained the lead for good after adding three more runs in the fifth inning by Avery Allen, A.J. Inatsugu and Grant Craddolph.

Westchester was scheduled to play Utah Wednesday, Aug. 22 to complete the round-robin pool.

Three of the five teams in Westchester’s pool will advance to the single elimination championship beginning Thursday, Aug. 23.
