The Westchester High School football team’s run for a Los Angeles City Section Invitational Division title came to an end in the quarterfinals after a 34-18 loss to host Eagle Rock High School Wednesday, November 23rd.
After finishing in fifth place in the Western League this season, the Westchester Comets (6-6) received the 11th seed in the Invitational Division playoffs.
The Comets made a statement in the first round with an upset victory over sixth-seeded Garfield High School, but third-seeded Eagle Rock (10-2) stopped the Comets from achieving another upset.
Westchester senior kicker Waldo Amador made a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the Eagle Rock lead to 13-3 at halftime.
Comet junior running back Damian Polk caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Duron Sylvester in the third quarter to bring the score to 20-10, but Eagle Rock then took control.
Sylvester threw another 24-yard touchdown pass to junior Khallid Muhammad in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to stop Eagle Rock.
Senior running back Gregory Ray, who was injured for most of the second half of the season, finished with seven carries for 61 yards rushing for Westchester.
