The ten- and 11-year-old players of the Westchester Little League All-Star baseball team avenged an earlier loss to Ladera Little League by capturing back-to-back victories to win the District 37 Championship Sunday, July 8th.

The Westchester team had lost to Ladera the past two years, including a 3-1 defeat in the first game of the District 37 tournament this season.

But Westchester fought back in the loser’s bracket by picking up victories over Holly Park (12-2), Lawndale (11-0), Lennox (14-0) and Del Rey (16-5) to reach the championship game against Ladera.

In order to win the District 37 title from the losers bracket, Westchester had to defeat Ladera twice.

Westchester team captain Kirav Patel was the starting pitcher against Ladera for the third year in a row, finally picking up the victory by helping lead his team to a 3-0 shutout in the first game. He surrendered only one hit in six innings pitched.

In the second game against Ladera, Hayden Boehle started as pitcher, as Westchester jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, courtesy of doubles by Brenden Yob and Patel.

Ladera came back to take a 4-2 lead after the third inning, but Westchester rallied with big hits by Nick Chavez, Ben Cady and Matthew McClean to close out with a 10-6 victory for the championship.

The team was scheduled to begin the District 37 Sectionals in Culver City July 14th.

The players on the Westchester All-Star team include Patel, Hayden Boehle, Adam Cady, Kyle Kutler, Nick Chavez, Cade Cressman, Matthew McClean, Ben Cady, Kai Seber, Sean Floyd, Brenden Yob, Jared Wexler, Dakota Kravetz, Aakeem Allahjah.
