In high school baseball games:

After picking up three consecutive victories in the RBI Chet Brewer Easter Tournament, the Westchester High School Comets lost 6-1 to Dana Hills High School in the tournament quarterfinals at USC Thursday, April 13th.

Westchester (11-6), the number-nine ranked baseball team by the Daily Breeze, is currently in first place in the Western League standings with an undefeated league record of 6-0.

The Comets will next play at Palisades High School in a league game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 20th.

The Venice High School Gondoliers scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to a 9-3 victory over Muir High School of Pasadena in the RBI Chet Brewer Easter Tournament Wednesday, April 12th.

The Gondoliers (4-12, 3-2) earned the win after losing their first two games of the tournament.

Junior Eric Alcantar led the Venice offense with three RBIs and junior Marcaaron Takagaki added two RBIs (runs batted in) in the victory.

Venice will next play at University High School in a Western League game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 20th.

The Santa Monica High School Vikings racked up 12 hits to defeat host Valley Christian High School of Cerritos 8-2 in a non-Ocean League game Saturday, April 15th.

The Vikings (11-7, 3-1) trailed 2-0 at the start of the third inning, but they took the lead with three runs in the third inning and added five runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.

Junior center fielder Dylan Early led Santa Monica with three hits and two RBIs. Seniors Millan De Pillars and Kevin Gonzalez also drove in two runs each for the Vikings, who finished with one error to three for Valley Christian.

Santa Monica, which is currently in second place in the league standings, will next play against Taft High in the Redondo Beach Tournament Saturday, April 22nd.

St. Monica High School scored a run in the sixth inning to earn a 4-3 victory over Calvary Chapel High of Downey in the Mary Star Tournament Monday, April 17th.

The Mariners (6-7, 3-4) trailed 3-2 after the first inning but they held Calvary Chapel scoreless from there on and tied the score with a run in the fifth inning.

Freshman Brandon Tobin, junior Michael Duval and senior Vince Valdez each finished with two hits and one RBI for the Mariners, who had nine hits in the game.

The St. Bernard High School Vikings lost 9-6 to Cathedral High School in the Mary Star Tournament Monday, April 17th.

The Vikings (3-11, 0-7) will next host Mary Star of the Sea High School in a non-Del Rey League game Tuesday, April 25th.

In high school softball games:

Senior Chandice Toomes hit a home run to help lead the Westchester High School Comets to a 4-3 Western League victory at home over University High School Monday, April 17th.

The Comets (7-8, 4-1) trailed 3-2 at the end of the third inning, but they scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the victory.

Westchester, which is currently in second place in the league standings behind Venice High, will next play at Palisades High in a league game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 20th.
