Westchester Lutheran Middle School’s cheer squad captured

first place in the junior high school division at the California Cheer and Dance Jamfest National Championship at the Sands Pavilion in Las Vegas April 10th and 11th.

The squad earned a championship banner and trophy for the school and each member received a national champion medal and a custom national champion backpack.

The squad members include Samantha Beaton, Kristina Carmickle, Kaiya Crawford, Drew Deason, Shelby Forte, Verena Gorgi, Ben Matsunaga,

Alexandra McKay, Isabella Pando, Preston Simpson, Pooja Singh, Margaret Stamberger and Kyla Wenzel.

The cheer squad also placed first in the National Individual Stunt Group Competition for which each participant received a trophy and a custom backpack.

The members of the stunt group squad were Deason

(flyer), Beaton, Pando, Stamberger and Wenzel, with Gorgi as spotter.

The squad has had an impressive season this year, placing third in both the West Coast Championship, held at Azusa Pacific University sponsored by the Federation of Christian Cheerleaders, and

the West Coast National Championship hosted by Cheerleaders of America (COA) held at University of California-Irvine.

The team coaches are Marge

and Michelle Packman.

Westchester Lutheran Church has been serving the Westchester community for over 50 years since its opening in 1944. The church is currently led by Pastor Fred Masted and is home to Westchester Lutheran School, which serves grades kindergarten through eighth.
