On Monday, October 9th, golfers will gather for the 23rd Annual Westchester Family YMCA Golf Classic to help raise funds to send disadvantaged children to camp and promote a variety of other YMCA programs.

The YMCA is currently accepting reservations for foursomes and individual golfers for the tournament, which will be held at the Braemar Country Club, 4001 Reseda Blvd. in Tarzana.

The annual event, sponsored again this year by Playa Vista, has become one of the YMCA’s chief fundraising efforts.

“Thanks to the golfers who play in this tournament, we have been able to send more than 55 kids to camp each year,” said Westchester YMCA executive director Lisa D’Angelo, “This will be a great event where everyone wins. The golfers get to play a great course.

“The YMCA raises money for its programs. And, through our scholarship program, disadvantaged youths get a chance to go to camp — some for the very first time.”

In addition to Playa Vista, other local organizations will be teaming up to help raise money for the YMCA through sponsorships and by signing up golfers to participate in the actual tournament.

Foursomes will be paired up with the chance to compete for prizes and the right to be named Tournament Champions.

There will be contests throughout the day, including closest-to-the pin, hole-in-one and longest putt.

“I had a great time at camp this summer,” said ten-year-old Tajh Henderson. “Without the YMCA, I would not have been able to have this experience. I met new friends, completed my first-ever ropes course and was able to enjoy a real camping experience. I can’t wait to go back next year.”
