Westchester Holiday Craft Boutique; Chamber Leadership Academy

The holidays always bring with them plenty of great music, and this year, they’re also bringing with them a great local choral group.

Based in Westchester, Westside Voices is comprised of singers from various genres and backgrounds — a master chorale singer, a musical comedy performer, a choral director, a recording artist and club performer and even a member of the classic doo-wop group, The Safaris.

“We came together two years ago in order to be able to sing a wide variety of music and experiment with many styles,” said member Harris Levey. “Our goal was to be able to sing in an excellent group, and be able to perform in a variety of venues and assist with charity fundraising.”

Westside Voices has become a community staple, lending their voices to causes of all kinds. The group recently performed at the Westchester United Methodist Church and has helped raise money for everything from the Santa Monica Red Cross to the Center for Healthy Aging, and it has performed in such local venues as the Knights of Columbus Hall, Playa Vista, and the Sunrise Senior Living facility.

“Our goal is to continue to make great music, and we are always looking to add accomplished singers who want a challenging and rewarding experience,” Levey said.

HOLIDAY CRAFT BOUTIQUE — Holy Nativity Parish will hold its Westchester Holiday Craft Boutique from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 29th, at the church, 6700 W. 83rd Ave. in Westchester.

Artisans interested in selling their crafts at the boutique can contact Lorrie Leon at (541) 761-5262 for more information.

All proceeds from the boutique will go to the Ninth Annual Westchester/Playa del Rey and Marina del Rey Holiday Street Parade, which will begin at the intersection of Loyola Boulevard and Manchester Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14th.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY — The LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting registration for its annual Leadership Academy or FLT 2009, which will take place from November to May.

This course is designed for individuals who wish to become more involved in the community and learn about the local area. The FLT will consist of one-day courses, once a month for eight months, and is designed to familiarize business leaders with information on the history/land use of the area, public speaking, and provide tours of LAX, Marina Harbor, Los Angeles City Hall and an opportunity to meet and interact with political leaders from the state and local levels.

It will also include information on economic development, leadership, meeting protocol, lobbying and civic involvement.

The chamber has also partnered with Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and the office of Continuing Education Accreditation for this course. Participation in FLT will also include one ticket to the Chamber Installation Dinner in June, where the class will graduate.

Enrollment in the FLT is limited to the first 25 individuals who sign up.

The cost for this course is $695.
