Whole Foods Market, a natural and organic foods supermarket, plans to open its latest Southern California store at 225 Lincoln Blvd., near Rose Avenue in Venice at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 3rd.

The 48,000-square-foot retail store offers organic, natural and local products, as well as specialty items.

Among the features in the Venice store are:

— personally-guided value tours;

— “Custom Catch,” a fish market where shoppers can purchase any available seafood with marinades and seasonings;

— a selection of meat, including game, duck and range-grown turkey;

— “Veggie Grill,” a daily rotation of items grilled to order;

— “Chocolate Island” featuring more than 50 chocolates;

— a bakery with European-style pastries, cakes and breads;

— a Tapioca and Rice Pudding Bar and a Gelato Scoop Bar;

— bins of organic and conventional fruits and vegetables;

— clothing, shoes, accessories and home goods; and

— more than 20,000 natural hair and skin care products.

“Venice, California is an internationally known cultural destination and a passionately involved resident community,” said Mike Bowen, store team leader of the Whole Foods Market in Venice. “This store reflects the diversity and artistic sensibility of Venice.”

Local artists, jewelers and designers will have their goods on sale in the new store. In addition, Whole Foods Market commissioned Chilean muralist and current Venice resident Francisco Letelier to create Reflecting the Light, a permanent mural in the building’s interior.

Letelier did a ceramic tile mural, The Sun and the Moon (1992), an artwork inside the Metro Red Line’s MacArthur Park station.

A frieze of tiles created with students from the Inside Out Community Arts Program in Venice is integrated into Letelier’s mural at the new store.

Whole Foods Market plans to partner with the Venice Family Clinic for Community Support Day Wednesday, September 10th. Five percent of after-tax profits from the event’s sales will benefit the clinic, which serves low income families and individuals.

The first 300 people to visit Whole Foods Market’s Venice store on opening day September 3rd, will receive free baguettes, fresh from the bakery’s first batch. At lunchtime, the meat department will celebrate the opening by firing up the grill.
