The accessway to Santa Monica’s most famous landmark is about to become more accommodating for pedestrians.
Work began March 12 to remove existing sidewalks on the Santa Monica Pier bridge and provide a wider, single pedestrian walkway on the north side of the bridge.
In addition, a concrete barrier will be installed between the vehicle lanes and pedestrian walkway.
The work is anticipated to be completed by Friday, March 22.
The enhanced width sidewalk on the north side of the bridge is intended to better accommodate the volume of pedestrians traveling to and from the pier, city officials said.
Enhanced signage and roadway markings will be also be added.
