Windows-On-Our-Waters founder and executive director Gary Poe received a $20,000 check from the Vons Foundation last month in support of the Santa Monica-based foundation. The check was presented by Keith Walton, director of the Vons store at Wilshire Boulevard and 14th Street in Santa Monica.

Since 2002, Windows-On-Our-Waters’ TidePool Cruiser has traveled more than 20,000 miles throughout Southern California bringing living marine life to students and members of the general public alike.

More than 36,000 elementary school children (one class at a time) have learned how they can prevent trash and other contaminants from entering our watersheds.

‘We believe it is important to give back to the communities where we live and work,’ said Marlyn Denter, president of the Vons Foundation. ‘We are extremely proud to support Windows-On-Our-Waters efforts to expand the content, geographic area and number (of people) reached by the TidePool Cruiser.’

‘This generous grant allows us to continue to bring an innovative, hands-on, experiential program to children in school districts from Ventura to Riverside counties,’ Poe said. ‘It’s not enough to educate children about the ways they can help the environment, they must be motivated to do so even after the TidePool Cruiser has left their school. And that’s what we try to do.’
