Winds Blow Out Power in Playa del Rey

L.A. Department of Water and Power officials are blaming powerful winds for a power outage on Sunday evening that left 1,429 utility customers in Playa del Rey without power for more than two hours.

The outage was traced to the 8100 block of Pershing Drive at around 5:40 p.m., DWP spokeswoman Terry Schneider said. The public utility dispatched crews to the area where they determined that palm tree fronds had knocked down some high-voltage power lines.

“In all probability it was weather-related, as there were high winds over the weekend,” Schneider said.

DWP crews restored power at 8:01 p.m., she said.
