The Westchester Family YMCA will host its inaugural “America on the Move” walk-a-thon from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 26th at the YMCA, 8015 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Westchester.
More than 1,300 YMCAs across the country are joining with the America on the Move Foundation in this collaborative effort to encourage community members to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
While diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes are prevalent and costly, they are also often preventable through eating healthy and physical activity, according to the organizations. Both organizations are working together to encourage individuals to take small steps to achieve and maintain healthier lifestyles.
Sponsors of the September 26th walk-a-thon are Rotary Club of Westchester, Laura and Jack Davis Coldwell Banker, Vera Lukic State Farm Insurance and Westchester High School.
“The Westchester Family YMCA hopes to inspire hundreds in the community to take simple steps to achieve lasting healthy changes in their lives,” says Chad Maender, operations director of the Westchester Family YMCA. “America on the Move Week with the YMCA provides individuals and families with tools to make healthier choices at home, work, school and throughout the community.”
The event also serves as a fundraiser to support the physical education programs that the YMCA provides for free to local elementary schools.
