An estimated 2,500 people from throughout the Los Angeles area, including children of all ages, took part in a youth run January 23rd on Santa Monica beach that raised over $72,000 for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, American Red Cross local chapter officials said.

Film and television actor Josh Duhamel teamed up with the American Red Cross of Santa Monica to host the “Youth Run for Haitian Earthquake Relief” fundraiser in Santa Monica.

In addition to Duhamel, Disney star Gregg Sulkin, actress and model Molly Sims, actress Dianna Agron and British reality TV star Matt Grant joined the youngsters on a two-mile jog from the park at 2600 Bernard Way up the beach to the Santa Monica Pier and back.

Participants were asked to contribute $10 as a donation, which went entirely to the American Red Cross relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti. A number of attendees donated in excess of the suggested $10 donation, with one celebrity writing a check for $10,000 and another for $25,000, Red Cross officials said.

Donations for Haiti relief are still being accepted at the Santa Monica chapter, 1450 11th St. in Santa Monica during weekday business hours and online at the chapter’s Web site, www.redcrossofsantamonica.org/.

Checks and money orders should be made out to “American Red Cross of Santa Monica – Haiti Relief.” Cash is also accepted.
