Seventy American Red Cross youth volunteers from throughout Southern California are expected to participate in community projects and leadership workshops at the Red Cross Youth Service day.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25th, at the Red Cross Santa Monica chapter, 1450 11th St.
Youths between the ages of 14 and 18 will participate in Red Cross workshops focusing on goal setting and international humanitarian law during the morning sessions and hear from guest speakers courtesy of the Red Cross National Youth Council.
They will then collaborate to host five simultaneous American Red Cross service projects which will include blood services, health and safety programs, disaster services including preparation for disaster and sheltering, food and care, services to men and women in the military domestically as well as overseas, and Red Cross international services.
Among other planned activities are a Third Street Promenade puppet show about preparing for disasters and presentations on the Measles Initiative at Santa Monica Collegeís Picnic on the Quad.
Participants in the program enrolled in the workshop at their home Red Cross chapters across the Southland. The event is under the auspices of the Southern California Youth Consortium, which is comprised of American Red Cross youth department employees.
