The “100 Best Communities for Young People” competition is under way and applications from cities, towns and municipalities across the country are being accepted by competition sponsors, the Capital One Financial Corporation and America’s Promise — The Alliance for Youth.

Five criteria for determining the winning communities are that the communities have adult role models, safe places for children to play, access to healthy starts for young children, effective education systems and volunteer opportunities.

The deadline for submitting an online application is Friday, July 29th.

Entries will be evaluated this summer by a panel of experts in education, civics and government, business and nonprofit fields and evaluated on the five criteria.

Winning communities will be selected in September and recognized at an event in Washington, D.C.
