In celebration of Earth Month, more than 2,000 people are expected to participate in The Carpe DiemÆ Santa Monica Classic, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 30th.

The 10K course is the only one offered in Santa Monica at this time, event organizers said.

The 10K and 5K courses will begin at Ocean Park Boulevard and Barnard Way and will take participants from Santa Monica Beach, up Main Street and through the winding streets off San Vicente Boulevard.

Participants will cross the finish line atop the Santa Monica Pier.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Heal the Bay, a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to making Santa Monica Bay and Southern California coastal waters safe and healthy for people and marine life.

Event amenities and activities include an environmentally-themed expo, running shirt, tours of the Santa Monica Bay Aquarium, kids play area, Carpe Diem recovery lounge, concierges in the event parking lots, free pre-race coffee service and an interactive Web site featuring streaming video, podcasts and blogs.
