Homicide detectives from Pacific Division of the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating a murder that occurred Tuesday, September 23rd, in an alley behind Marionwood Drive in the Mar Vista Gardens Housing Proj-ect in the Del Rey area.

The victim, Braylon Williams, 22, was walking in the alley at approximately 1:30 p.m. when he was approached from behind by a male Hispanic.

The suspect fired several shots from a medium caliber pistol and struck the victim multiple times, according to police. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect fled eastbound through the buildings and was last seen running southbound along a flood control fence.

The shooter is described as a male, Hispanic, 18 to 20 years old, of medium height and build, wearing a black sweatshirt.

Police say the motive for the slaying appears to be gang retaliation.

Mark Redick, the president of the Del Rey Neighborhood Council, lamented the loss of life.

“Anytime the community loses a life, the community takes a hit,” Redick said. He added that his board would be working with Pacific Division and City Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s office to bring in security cameras in certain areas of Del Rey.
