A 24-year-old Del Rey man was shot to death while he was sitting on a bicycle near his home on Slauson Avenue in Del Rey early Tuesday, April 15th, police said.
The man, identified by police as Vidal Jose Ventura-Jimenez, was sitting on a bicycle in the 4500 block of South Slauson Avenue, near Culver Boulevard in Del Rey at about 12:45 a.m. when a large, dark-colored four-door SUV drove up with four occupants, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Ana Aguirre said.
One of the suspects in the vehicle then allegedly fired multiple shots, striking Ventura-Jimenez in the upper torso, Aguirre said. The vehicle then drove away and was last seen headed northbound on Slauson toward Culver Boulevard, she said.
The victim was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Aguirre said.
The four suspects are described only as black men, police said.
The victim is not believed to have been a gang member but police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, Aguirre said.
