The 28th Annual Jet to Jetty, featuring 5K and 10K races, 10- and 20-mile family bicycle rides and a kids “fun run,” will take place at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey Saturday, Aug. 25.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Westchester-based Airport Marina Counseling Service, a nonprofit, community-based mental health clinic that is celebrating its 50th year of providing mental health services to the greater Los Angeles International Airport area and training mental health therapists.

“Support from the community, especially for the Jet to Jetty, has been a key factor in helping AMCS achieve this milestone,” said Kathleen O’Leary Lefferman, executive director of the clinic.

The Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation is once again the title sponsor of the race for 2012.

“We encourage everyone to participate in the Jet to Jetty, which supports the great work that Airport Marina Counseling Service does in our community,” said Karen Dial, president of the Drollinger foundation.

Former Los Angeles Dodger and Angel Jay Johnstone will serve as the grand marshal for this year’s event. Johnstone was an outfielder who played for eight teams during his 19-year major league career.
