A 79-year-old woman was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle and dragged a short distance in the driveway of a medical plaza near St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica Monday afternoon, May 11th, police said.

After hitting the pedestrian, the driver of the vehicle allegedly continued to drive off without rendering aid or notifying police, investigator Chris Dawson said.

The pedestrian was walking in the private driveway of the medical plaza at 2001 Santa Monica Blvd. at about 1:50 p.m., when she was run over by the vehicle, police said. The driver then continued to head into the parking structure of St. John’s Hospital and the medical buildings, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she is currently in critical condition.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver, who is described as a white man in his 60s, with “salt and pepper” hair and a goatee.

The vehicle is described as a late model Infiniti or Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle, light gray or silver in color.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Investigator Dawson at (310) 458-8954 or Sgt. Horn at (310) 458-8950, or the on-duty watch commander at (310) 458-8427.
