The seventh annual Del Rey Day, celebrating the Del Rey community and its 107th anniversary, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at Glen Alla Park, 4601 Alla Road.
The event will begin with the Community Annual Race for Education (CARE) 5K run/walk in the morning.
Among those scheduled to attend are Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, a representative of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office and Del Rey Neighborhood Council representatives, who will recognize residents and organizations in the Del Rey community.
The celebration will feature live entertainment from local residents and schools, music, food and community service booths from Del Rey organizations.
“Del Rey Day puts a spotlight on the amazing things happening in the Del Rey community” said Brett Flater, chair of the Del Rey Day Committee. “Under new leadership, the neighborhood council has supported a record number of community projects.”
The local council has recently offered support for Playa del Rey Elementary School’s beautification project, the first annual Del Rey Soccer Cup, the fourth annual hand ball tournament, fall festivals at Short Avenue and Playa del Rey Elementary, and the upcoming LAPD Pacific division toy drive and Winter Festival.
“People may have easily missed the great things done by parents, students, community leaders, and local neighbors in Del Rey over the past several months,” said Flater. “We hope this day of celebration will bring attention to their great work and contributions to our community.”
At the event, the neighborhood council will also announce the launch of its remodeled Web site, www.delreync.org.
Due to construction in Glen Alla Park, guests are encouraged to carpool, use public transportation, or walk to the event.
