Santa Monica community activist Jerry Rubin will fulfill a birthday pledge this year that he made last year to donate cash to the City of Santa Monica Big Blue Bus.
A free public cake-cutting and donation ceremony will take place on Rubin’s 63rd birthday, at noon Monday, December 11th, at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 Fourth St., Santa Monica.
When he received a Big Blue Bus senior discount card on his 62nd birthday last year, Rubin pledged to donate the money he saved over the course of one year to the Big Blue Bus and two other community groups that are assisting senior citizens with their special transportation needs.
Rubin, who has never owned a car and is a frequent Big Blue Bus rider, says he saved $300 last year by paying the 25-cent senior fare instead of the 75-cent regular fare.
He will donate $100 each to the Big Blue Bus, the Wise Senior Services Transportation and Mobility Program and the Center for Healthy Aging Independent Transportation Network Santa Monica.
