The Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica is presenting Ghosts, a modern adaptation of a classic play, through April 8.

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 5 p.m. Sundays at Edgemar, 2437 Main St., Santa Monica.

Based on the play by Henrik Ibsen, the story follows Helen Alving, whose struggle with the ghosts of her past is about to come to an end, as on the 10th anniversary of her husband’s death, a new orphanage will be dedicated in his name.

For 29 years, since her mother and two aunts arranged for her to marry the wealthy, charming Captain Alving, Helen has kept a dark secret – the reality of her late husband’s deviant excesses and his disease. Now, with her son Osvald finally home to stay after many years abroad, a triumphant new life begins.

But her spiritual liberation is about to meet a catastrophic fate in this play, which is adapted and directed by Doug Kaback.

The show is produced by Alexandra Guarnieri.

The cast includes Michelle Danner, Cornell Womack, James Giordano, Nate Golon and Lucy Honigman.

Admission is $34.99. A limited number of seats will be available for each performance at a discounted price of $25.
