The City of Los Angeles department that operates Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and three other city-owned airports has been honored for its marketing and communications efforts.

LAWA (Los Angeles World Airports) was recognized by the Airports Council International-North America and named winner in the council’s annual Excellence in Marketing and Communication Contest for this year.

LAWA’s newsletter to its 2,500 employees, Aerogramme, was selected as the best internal publication among U.S. airports.

LAWA uses the newsletter to keep employees at four airports informed through a printed and Internet version of the newsletter.

LAX staff also combined a 1971 song, “LA International Airport” with a new version promoting the contributions of the airport.

The program won a second place award in a contest of “creative innovations” in the promotion category.
